this past friday night, a group of us scrappers got together and decided to get our creative mojo on. so i had this idea for a layout for josh's 29th b-day. so i entitled it "29 things i love about you." and i got this sketch for the layout out of a b.h.g. mag i borrowed from my friend lauren. so see- it helps to scrap around your friends; you can borrow their cool stuff.

jenni bowlin rocks
ok- her stuff is so cool. i think different layouts call for different designers. and she is one that i adore. i could add her products to any layout and be happy with what i've made. this photo is of our new orleans mission trip, our group visited a wonderful church while we were there and this made for a great photo op. so 2 things i love: new orleans and jenni bowlin.

reminisce line
love this paper line. love the colors. i try to scrapbook one page a month about me because i'm conceited. just kidding. i took a class one time and the instructor said "make sure you include layouts of yourself whether you like them or not because your children will want to know about your personality one day." so i took that to heart and sometimes i jump out from behind my camera and attempt to be in a photo.

the hardest layout i've ever made
my friend, tonya skala was a fighter- a survivor. she was an amazing person, and cancer took her life in february of 2007. this pic was taken the day she told me she had breast cancer. everytime i tried to scrapbook a pic with tonya, my emotions took over and i would have to tuck my pics away and move on to something else. a few weeks ago while taking a class with jenni bowlin, we were given the "lucky" bingo cards and it clicked; i just knew it. i was so lucky to have been blessed by tonya's friendship. so i scrambled to find the pic and this layout just 'happened.'

fabric layout
i love shopping the bargain bins at the fabric store to get the scraps of fabric bolts. you can find really cool pieces for less than a dollar. this particular piece i used in this layout was $0.37. so this proves you can make really great layouts and they don't have to cost a fortune. the journaling paper is making memories. instead of cutting the frayed ends off the fabric, i left them on and put that end toward the top of the cardstock. i liked the texture it added.
my mind's eye
in this layout, i used the 'magnolia' line from my mind's eye. there is one piece from scenic route, the blue and white strip that i adhered over the brown ribbon at the bottom. i don't like all my colors to be exactly the same. the orange scallops are from the new bazzill borders collection. if you haven't used them yet- you have to buy some. i love their versatility. the chipboard letters are lil' davis. i used a small amount of blue paint on them to give a weathered look. the blue chipboard 7 is heidi swapp. and the ribbon is prima. in this photo, i made all the girls lay flat on the floor with their heads together and i stood over them to snap this shot. you will see this pic again in another layout only it will be an 8"x10" black and white photo.

scenic route
in this layout, i used three 4x6 photos and lined them up the page vertically.
in this layout, i used two 4x6 photos and lined them up on the page vertically.
i cut up the word 'splash' and used mini glue dots to adhere onto the arrow.
layering patterned paper adds a bit of dimension.
all these layouts were made with scenic route papers. most of them from the 'metropolis' line. i love the bold colors of orange, turquoise and lime. scenic route always adds that extra element to their paper lines that add dimension; for example, those die cut arrows that seem to draw your eye closer to the photo. i outlined many of the shapes with a black pen to add a bit of a bolder look.

sassafras lass
i just can't get enough of sassafras lass. they have fabulous color schemes and patterns that are sure to make any page scream the word 'fun.' the paper lines i used were "scrumptious" and "blue boutique." i love using fun patterned paper as a background opposed to cardstock on occasion because it makes the eye focus on the more 'still' objects.

blog 1/ take 1
ok- so every time i read a blog and there are twenty thousand paragraphs, i start thinking 'this should be a blahhhhg because this bores me.' so i'll be short and sweet, until my a.d.d. kicks in. i have spent the past two weekends working on layouts that would be "scrapliftable" so that you can take your favorite papers and copy mine- if you like them. most of my inspiration for my layouts come from magazines, my friend beth (i scraplift her stuff a lot) blogs, coffee, and d.t. galleries. some of my work is original, and some of it i may have lifted from somewhere. you know you do too. and if you don't like my work, then you can bash it on the nasty blog. hey- any press is publicity....right?
